What is an Amazon Andon Cord?
Amazon adopted the Andon cord system as a method to ensure that quality issues with products on the site are addressed quickly and fully. There are two types of Andon cords on Amazon- notifications and Buy Box suspensions. Notifications are purely informational and are used to notify Vendors of a potential issue with their ASINs. No response is required to a notification Andon cord.
The other type of Andon cord is a Buy Box suspension. In this case, the item will not be sellable by Amazon or by any third-party sellers until Amazon receives a response that addresses their concerns.
How is an Andon cord resolved?
A “notification” Andon cord does not need to be resolved, and should just be used for internal reference by the Vendor.
A Buy Box suspension is more serious, and will require some legwork on the Vendor side to resolve. Luckily, Amazon usually provides very specific reasons for the Andon cord, which can be addressed point-by-point to ensure that all of Amazon’s criteria are met.
How does TkAMZ deal with Andon cords?
We resolve every Buy Box suspension Andon cord for our clients within 48 hours of the initial notification.
As soon as the notification is received, we reach out to our ICE contacts at the client to make them aware of the issue and request initial feedback on the nature of the complaints. We primarily want to know if the client has already addressed the product’s quality concerns, possibly for other customers, or if they have a go-forward plan in place to fix it.
